KALAMAKI CRETE

KALAMAKI CRETE

The village of Kalamaki is situated on the Southern side of Crete 65 Km southwest of the city of Heraklion, between Timpaki and Mires. It was built during the 1980's, although the first houses were not built until the 1960's. Far away from mass-tourism, Kalamaki maintains it's unique traditional character.

Along a beautiful sandy beach, dotted with taverns in this ideal setting, our village provides everything needed for unique, relaxing holidays, in a quiet and accomodating atmosphere.

The beautiful sandy coast which characterizes the village of Kalamaki, is exactly opposite the village, and extends along the Coast of the Messara. Here there are also protected areas which host the endangered sea-turtles Kareta Kareta.

This is among the few locations in the world where Kareta Kareta lay their eggs. The organization ARCHEILLON are responsible for their protection.

Komos Beach can be found just a few metres away from Kalamaki. This is one of the few renowned nudist beaches.

Accommodation is easily found in Kalamaki, taverns and traditional cafeneions where you'll meet both the locals and visitors.

For sightseeing there's a plethora of options for every visitor. The Minoan palace of Faistos, Matala with its famous caves, Gortys, the archeological site of Komos and the Minoan Palace of Agia Triada are only three in the endless list.
